Importance Of Online Banking. The Internet has made many
things easier for humans, including connectivity, that is why the use of the
Internet around the world has grown exponentially over time. Money transfer and
payment were a big problem for business and ordinary people, people had
to go to round the banks, but now thanks to the internet all
these problems have been solved. Such as money transfer, account balance
checking, bank statement, check details, pre-made transaction, loan statement,
payment, money transfer, and bill payment processing, etc. Recently, more than 500 branches of the National Bank of Pakistan
(NBP) have been brought online across Pakistan. With NBP going online, customers can now deposit or
withdraw money from any other branch through inter-branch transactions.
Core Banking System : The NBP has recently launched some
IT projects to make it the most technologically advanced bank in the
country. At present, a project called Core Banking System is being implemented
which is one of the major IT projects in Pakistan and includes all the
functions of banking. Apart from government banks, non-government
banks like Summit, Faisal Bank, Standard Chartered banks are also providing
online banking.
The government agency WASA has
launched an online banking system for payment of water bills. In addition, a
number of government and non-government organizations have launched online
billing. Along with the rise of Internet banking, there are also
risks that existed before internet banking. Everything has some advantages and
disadvantages, there are advantages and disadvantages
of Internet banking but these disadvantages can be avoided with a
little caution.
Risks : Like the world, Pakistan is also witnessing an increase in the
number of Internet users. There has also been a
record increase in incidents. According to FIA Cyber Crime Unit
sources, the number of cyber crime incidents in Pakistan has quadrupled in the
last four years. It is estimated that the number of Internet users in
Pakistan is around 20 million. Cyber crime is rampant in Pakistan in various
forms including hacking of emails and websites, virus, and Trojan attacks, computer money laundering, password
theft, and online banking fraud (i.e. ATMs). According to FIA
sources, 40 government and non-government Pakistani websites, including the
Presidency and the Supreme Court of Pakistan, were hacked in a few months. The
link that appears in the email or SMS does not necessarily lead to the original
link to the same website.
Precautionary Measures: Before using your ID and password, make sure that the
bank's website is properly secured and that you have a valid security
certificate. You can check the certificate by double-clicking
on a lock icon on the far right of the browser's status bar, but also
automatically check all-new browsing certificates, green, yellow,
blue, or red on the left side of the URL bar make a mark of Browse
will warn you anyway if the red color is highlighted and you should close this
website immediately.
Always keep your ID, password, and cards safe and provide
close access to close relatives through an additional card or additional
account. Use a bank account at any public computer such as a public hot spot, coffee shop, shopping mall, and airport.
Most banks offer
automated e-mail and SMS to notify you immediately in the
event of a transaction exceeding a certain threshold,
or any other unusual situation. Make every effort to ensure that you are
using this facility properly. Any untoward situation could be reported in
a timely manner. Minimize contact with strangers, especially
cyber criminals who use irrational identities. You or your reputation can be
severely damaged. The government has set up National Cyber crime
Control Agency.
The Response Center for Cyber crime (also known
as NR3C for short) has not been able to achieve its
desired goals, mainly due to the lack of awareness among citizens about the
organization and cyber crime. Conclusion : According
to a senior official of the unit,
the number of complaints registered with the FIA Crime Cell is less than 10% of
the actual number of cyber crime incidents across the country due to a lack of
awareness among citizens about a cyber crime law and an
agency. Laws need to be enacted and strictly enforced to
curb cyber crime .❤☺ |
